Monday 11th December 2017

School will be open tomorrow (Tuesday 12th December).
Please wrap children up in hats, gloves and scarfs as well as waterproof outdoor shoes. We would also ask that children bring 'indoor' shoes to change into, or they can use their school pumps.
Thank you for your support with today's closure, please travel carefully and we will see you all tomorrow.

Edward the Elder, Elston Hall, Goldthorn Park and Palmers Cross Schools will all be open on Tuesday 12th December 2017.

As a school we follow the 2014 National Curriculum and cover the subjects and topics as outlined in the statutory guidance.

Mr R Holmes has curriculum responsibility for maths and he can be contacted if you require further information.

Please contact the school office for further details.

Calculation Policies

Below you will find links to our Calculation Policies from Reception to Year 6.

These policies show the methods and strategies we use to teach the four operations:

  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division

Bar Models

Bar models are pictorial representations of problems or concepts that can be used for any of the operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In word problems, they hold the huge benefit of helping children decide which operations to use or visualise problems. It is then up to the children to calculate the answer. The policy below shows how we teach the children to use bar models.
