During our inspiration day to launch our new topic, Unity in the Community, Year 1 went on a local walk around our school. Whilst on our walk, children developed their geographical knowledge by identifying human and physical features within the environment. They also learnt about the Green Cross Code and put it into practise on the walk when crossing a number of roads. Children dressed us as people they may find in their community and explained how they could help others. During our walk we also looked for signs and symbols and identified what actions these wanted us to do e.g. stop, slow down, speed up.
In the afternoon, the children learnt about dynamics and added instruments to reflect the dynamics.
The children made links from signs in the environment to sounds made on percussion instruments.
